Google Workspace end of support - Microsoft Exchange and Google Sync
Google Workspace is ending support for Microsoft Exchange and Google Sync on 9/30/2024 in favor of OAuth, a more secure authentication method. This will require you to select an alternate method to sync your ARTIC Google Workspace account on iPads and iPhones.
To set up Gmail on an iPhone, you have two options. We recommend using the Gmail and Google Calendar apps available from the Apple App Store or by re-adding your ARTIC Gmail account in the Apple Mail app.
To use the Gmail app and or Google Calendar...
Current Gmail app users:
1. Open the Gmail app
2. Tap your profile picture in the top right
3. Tap "Add another account"
4. Tap Google
5. Follow the on-screen steps to add your ARTIC account, you will authenticate using our ARTIC SSO page
Current Google Calendar app users:
1. Open the Google Calendar app
2. Tap your profile picture in the top right
3. Tap "Add another account"
4. Tap "Continue"
5. Enter your ARTIC email address, ex. username@artic.edu
6. Tap "Next"
7. You will be directed to our SSO page, login using your ARTIC username and password
you will authenticate using our ARTIC SSO page
8. Follow the on-screen steps to add your ARTIC account
New Gmail and Google Calendar app users:
1. Download and open the Gmail app
5. Follow the on-screen steps to add your ARTIC account, you will authenticate using our ARTIC SSO page
If you choose to use Apple's Mail app you will first want to disable the current Exchange configuration to avoid visible data duplication of email and calendar events.
1. Open Settings
2. Tap Mail (if you are using iOS 18, tap "Apps" first)
3. Tap Mail Accounts
4. Select the old Exchange configuration
5. Toggle OFF (gray is OFF) Mail, Contacts, and Calendars etc.
To continue to use the Apple Mail app:
1. Open Settings
2. Tap Mail (if you are using iOS 16, tap "Apps" first)
3. Tap "Add Account" (if you are using iOS 18, tap "Mail Accounts" first)
4. Tap Google
5. Enter your ARTIC email address, ex. username@artic.edu
6. Tap "Next"
7. You will be directed to our SSO page, login using your ARTIC username and password
8. Tap "Continue"
9. Tap the "Select all" box, scroll down and tap "Continue"
10. Tap "Continue" again
11. Toggle ON (green is ON) the services you wish to sync with your iOS iPhone or iPad (Mail, Contacts, Calendars etc.)
12. Tap "Save"
If you are confident that Google configuration has synchronized your email, calendar, and contacts, return to the settings above and tap Delete Account.
