Completing Duo enrollment and account activation
In order to use the Art Institute’s Cisco AnyConnect VPN service, use of Duo Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) is required. Shortly after your VPN request is approved, you will receive an e-mail message from no-reply@duosecurity.com with a subject heading that reads “Duo Security Enrollment for AIC and SAIC”. The e-mail will include a link that will walk you through the following process of enrolling in and activating your Duo service:
-
Welcome Screen
Click Start Setup to begin enrolling your device.
-
Choose Your Authenticator
Select the type of device you'd like to enroll and click Continue. We strongly recommend using a smartphone for the best experience, but you can also enroll a landline telephone, iOS/Android tablet, or in the future, a Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) token.
-
Enter Your Phone Number
Select your country from the drop-down list and type your phone number. Use the number of a smartphone, landline, or cell phone that you'll have with you whenever you log into your VPN account. Double-check that you entered it correctly, check the box, and then click Continue.
Note: If you're enrolling a tablet you won’t be prompted to enter a phone number.
-
Choose Platform
Choose your device's operating system and click Continue. If you do not have a compatible smartphone device or decide not to install the Duo Mobile app, choose Other and click Continue. Then, skip to step 7 in this guide.
-
Install Duo Mobile
Why Use Duo Mobile?
- It's fast & easy
- It works in any country
- Doesn't require cell service
- More reliable than SMS/Voice
Duo Mobile is an app that runs on your smartphone and helps you authenticate quickly and easily. Without it you'll still be able to log in using a phone call, but for the best experience we highly recommend that you use Duo Mobile.
Follow the platform-specific instructions on the screen to install Duo Mobile. After installing the app, return to the enrollment window and click I have Duo Mobile installed.
-
Activate Duo Mobile
Link the Duo Mobile app to your Duo account by taking a picture of the QR code from the Duo Mobile app on the device that you're adding. The application will request access to the camera, which you should temporarily allow. This can be disabled after you've added the device. Alternatively, you can have an activation link e-mailed to you instead.
Configure Device Options (optional)
If this is the device you'll use most often with Duo then you may want to enable automatic push requests by changing the When I log in: option and changing the setting from "Ask me to choose an authentication method" to "Automatically send this device a Duo Push" or "Automatically call this device" and click Save. With one of the automatic options enabled Duo automatically sends an authentication request via push notification to the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone or a phone call to your device (depending on your selection).
Click Finish Enrollment to complete the process.
You're Done!
The screen above indicates that you have completed the Duo MFA Enrollment. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about this process.
